This project involved the manufacture of a mounting plate for use in the aerospace industry. Using a large format CNC milling machine, we profile milled the component, which was composed of 6061-T6 aluminum. Next, the plate was milled out leaving an intricate web truss structure while minimizing the overall weight of the part. Secondary operations were done after the plate was completed, helicoil threaded inserts were added. The final FLIR upper plate measured 48 inches long, 21 inches wide, and 2 inches high, with a base material thickness of 2.25 inches.
